my name is Marisa Fonseca.
I’m a local girl, a native Hawaiian wahine, born and raised here on the island of Oahu. With over 9 years in the sugaring industry, sugaring is my passion and I believe it is the most natural, and organic form of hair removal!
I am so excited to have Sukkar (sugar) Hawaiʻi, a full body hair removal studio right here in my hometown of Hawaiʻi Kai, at KoKo Marina Center.
Our clients comfort, health, and safety, is a priority! Due to Covid-19, we have made a few adjustments:
- We only service one client at a time. Everyone will be Covid-19 pre-screened.
- The table, and common areas, are sanitized and cleaned, after each client.
- The bed is sanitized and cleaned and linens are changed out after each client.
- Installation of HEPA Air Purifier to reduce indoor air pollutants, including airborne viruses.

The Sugar Paste will not stick to your skin
Sugar is water soluble. Since live cells are wet, the sugar paste cannot adhere to the live skin.
A Natural Exfoliant
Being that sugar is a natural exfoliant, it will remove dead skin cells, improve skin texture, over time with consistent treatments it may lighten and brighten the skin. Immediately after sugaring the skin will be smooth, soft, and hair free.
The Sugar Paste Is Not As Hot
Sugar paste is applied at a lukewarm temperature making it safe for all areas, it will never burn your skin.
It Will Not Break Hair
Sugar paste wraps around the hair shaft, while lubricating the hair to the make the extraction complete, intact, and gentle. The hair is then removed in the direction of the hair growth which makes for less discomfort.
It Is More Sanitary
Sugar is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. Due to the high levels of sugar, bacteria cannot breed in the sugar paste. Note: Sugar was used to heal wounds during the Civil War as it helps prevent infections while promoting healing.

The sugar paste is applied by hand in the opposite direction of hair growth which allows the sugar to seep into the hair follicle. The hair is then removed with a flicking motion of the hand in the same direction of the hair growth. This allows the hair to stay completely intact while it is extracted. The process of sugaring not only removes unwanted hair but it simultaneously exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. Your skin will be left feeling silky, smooth, and soft. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare for my sugaring appointment?

Hair should be at least 1/4 -1/2 inch long. Not to worry if it is longer we’ll take care of it.
DAY OF APPOINTMENT
Please arrive with clean skin. Refrain from using makeup, lotions, oils, or perfume in the areas that will be sugared.
For services of the face it is best if NO MAKEUP including any skin products or moisturizer is worn to your appointment and that you arrive with a freshly washed face.
POST-APPOINTMENT INSTRUCTIONS
FIRST 24-48 HOURS
- Your skin will be sensitive for the first day or so. No exfoliating, scrubbing or rubbing the areas even in the shower.
- Do Not sunbath, use a hot tub, or sauna, exercise, or participating in any activity that may cause you to sweat or may cause friction in those areas.
- Keep skin clean and free of any products, lotions, and make-up at least for a few hours, the longer the better.
